First Shot Fear Beater – My First Round On The HCG Diet

by walter

A reader emailed me asking, “…big question: which is better for HCG, sublingual or injections (shots)? What has been your experience?”oral hcg-hcg diet-hcg drops

I get this question a lot.

My answer is: Sublingual (oral HCG), always. I did my first round and a half on the injections and it was a clumsy (but happy) accident that got me on the sublingual.

Okay, I’ll fess up – I was a clutz. While on vacation I accidentally dropped my vial of HCG and was forced to use the Redhead’s sublingual mix until we got back home.

Ultimately, I found the sublingual to be less invasive, less confronting and surprisingly, the morst potent form of oral HCG.

Also, with sublingual you don’t have to observe the day off protocol, which is only for injections. I did injections for my first round and a half and I HATE shots! I was the world’s biggest wussie when it came to needles and injections, especially when it was Crunch Time and I had to actually USE them!

But… after talking to my doctor during my last annual checkup, I had come to fear the consequences of continuing being fat and the obesity-related diseases I was opening myself up to.

THAT I feared more than I feared the needles. So I bucked up, put my head down and plowed through it.

Funny story – my first day of the HCG Diet, Round 1 and I had to give myself my first shot. A group of us were gathered to go out for my historic first round to a huge breakfast splurge to kick it off.

See, they were all curious if this HCG Diet thing even worked but weren’t curious enough to actually DO it themselves, oh no! They were quite willing to let me be the human guninea pig, therefore if I keeled over or grew a third head or started speaking in tongues — hey, they didn’t risk their necks!

We were running late for our reservation, so I popped into the bathroom real quick for the inaugural shot.

Anway, I swabbed the correct area of the outer quadriceps of one leg, drew the right number of cc’s from the HCG bottle, pulled back the plunger and…

…  I couldn’t. I couldn’t do it.

Weird, like there was a physical barrier to actually breaking the skin with a needle. I had read up on how to give myself a shot, I had talked to my doctor on how to do it – and when it came time, I would pull my hand back at the last minute.

Thirty minutes later, The Redhead’s sister, a dental hygienist, finally knocked on the door and asked if she could help. See, she gives people shots in the mouth (of all places!) all the time and I figured that if she can do it in such a delicate area, then showing me how to stick the needle in my leg would be a piece of cake.

So she came in and coached me through it.

It still took another 15 minutes, though. And… by the end of my first week I was fine.

Though that first shot took over 45 minutes to execute and was no small source of continuing amusement for her (it was the first time in 11 years she’d seen me afraid to do anything).

So if you’re determined to do shots despite the subligual mix being easier to take and more potent, and if I can contribute to yours not being so arduous, let me know.

HI, I finished my first 40 shot round with doctor/Nurse
Practitioner’s supervision.. or lack there of..
Any way, I lost 34 pounds in the 40 days, Now I am at the end of
week one of stage 3.. I am maintaining and even lost 2 pounds since Last shot. Eating ALL day long!! NOW I know what copious amount of veggies really means!!.

    #1>>Did you track all your
food during this time? I still have 100 pounds to go. what % of
protein and veggie carbs and fruits did you have?

I do not mind the shots. I have heard that the sublingual does
NOT work for some people. DO you feel your hypothalamus is reset
so you can eat more normally??

Great job and crongrats on the 34 lb weight loss! Yes, I know about the veggies and eating lost of them. And this from a guy that, prior to going on the HCG Diet, I hated the veggies!

    > Did you track all your food during this time?

ALWAYS. In fact, it has been one of the keys to my success on the diet. I still do to this day just because I got in the habit. Same with weighing. While I no longer do it every day, I do weight 3x/week like clockwork. One of the secrets to success in any endeavor in life is that you can’t manage what you don’t measure. There are more upcoming posts on this… if folks are interested.

    > what % of protein and veggie carbs and fruits did you have?

I don’t bother with calcing percentages because I haven’t found it to be important, even though I know some who think it is.

Frankly, I found about as useful as Kevin Trudeau claiming that you have to do a “cleanse” before you go on the HCG Diet. Utter rubbish.

    > I have heard that the sublingual does NOT work for some people.

Yes, I have seen this opinion masquerading as a fact, as well. Actual experience though, mine and others I have either coached or watched their progress, does not bear this out. I was glad to kick the shot deal to the curb. There were even a couple of times when I accidentally hit a nerve and that was harrowing — trying to pull a thin needle out of a violently-spasming muscle without breaking it. Not for the faint-hearted. Though it takes a bit longer to get into the bloodstream, under the tongue is more effective, and safer than shots.

    > DO you feel your hypothalamus is reset so you can eat more normally??

Oh yah, absolutely. At some point I’ll write about my Great State Fair Experiment (where for 8 hours I ate as much pizza, burgers, french fires, brownies, deep-fried Snickers, etc my stomach could hold) and I did in the middle of Round 3. The results will astound you. On a much smaller scale, I did something similar over the Thanskgiving and Christmas holidays. And guess what? I only gained ten pounds and I had it all back off by the end of January. So yeah, I now pretty much have the metabolism I did when I was a teen.
