[HCG Diet 5 Lessons Learned] Lesson Learned #1: 500 vs. 800 vs. 1000 vs. 1200 Calorie Protocols – Which Is Best?

The HCG Diet’s Many Protocols: 500 vs. 800 vs. 1,000 vs. 1,200 calorie  – which is the best?

These days the HCG Diet world is divided into several protocol camps:

  • 500 calories
  • 800 calories
  • 1,000 calories
  • and the latest, the 1,200 calorie protocol

My problem with all of them except the original 500 calorie one is twofold: ethical and function.

The only reason the others exist is that medical trade associations (doctors, nurses & others) are organizations designed to get their members more business and protect their interests.

But because of the AMA guidelines on what is and is not an acceptable diet for a medical professional to safely recommend (and still retain their AMA membership),

Doctors feel that they cannot recommend any diet of 500 calories because according to AMA guidelines, “anything below 800 is a “starvation diet.”

And that’s the ethical problem of the 800, 1000 and 1200 calorie HCG Diet protocols.

They are purely a money-making invention of frustrated doctors and medical trade groups wanting to cash in on the HCG Diet craze, but cannot without running afoul of the AMA.

So what was their solution? Invent a protocol of 800 calories or greater! No testing, no rigorous verification of whether it works or not. Just make up a new one!

You think I’m kidding? Sadly, I’m not. That’s the no BS straight truth of how they came about.

Therefore these alternative protocols were not created because they are better, but to make the HCG Diet more appealing to doctors so they will be able to make more money recommending it.

That’s a good thing right?

No it’s not, because since the only reason the 800, 1000 and 1200 calorie protocols were invented to create new revenue for their members’ practices, then that’s not a good enough reason for it to exist, dammit!

This is not what we expect from the medical professionals we trust. We expect them to introduce new treatments and procedures to us only after extensive trials and peer-reviewed studies that can be challenged and answered.

But hey… what the heck do I know? It’s not like I shed 157 lbs. in a record-breaking 123 days and have since stayed within 5 lbs. of my last weigh-in day for years — or anything like that, right?
