 Last week, my Creative Directory Carly told you about the REALLY BAD day we had at the office…it was quite a day. Now, we really strive to make the best of every day, but just like everyone else, we’re human…

Here’s the thing: no matter what kind of business you’re in, what you do for a living, there are going to be days that just make you crazy with problems. No matter what, things just continue to happen. However, the people who thrive and prosper in the long run are the ones who have a prescriptive attitude in life…they take charge of the caliber of information that reaches their brain and are more easily able to make the most of those days where “challenges” relentlessly come their way.

One of the most effective ways to control stress and deal with “character building days” is to control your attitude. Success in life is 80 percent Attitude and 20 percent Aptitude. It’s our attitude that will make the difference in how we deal with outside stress. Robert Schuller said, “Success doesn’t come the way you think it does — it comes from the way you think.”

So, how do you have a prescriptive attitude in life? By simply arming yourself with information to deal with whatever changes and challenges come your way. Seed your mind with information that uplifts you and helps you keep your head in the game.

Regardless of anything else in life, there will always be change and challenges. However, when you’re armed with a positive attitude and the resources to prevent stress and panic, you can overcome the unresourceful state of mind that often accompanies the “problems” you’ll face in life.

You get in life what you focus on. If you dwell on limitations, you will reach them. If you focus on stress you will get more stress. You will have a better life in every way if you make the least of the worst while making the most of the best. One attribute that elevates the outstanding from the average is the willingness to look for the positive angle and humor in all situations.

Optimists know that quite often, difficult situations or “problems” bring out hidden resources and capabilities (and are good for a laugh later). It’s up to each one of use to make the internal decision to excel and rise to the occasion, regardless of what the occasion might be. Optimists choose to see opportunities where others choose to see problems.

Thomas Edison said, “If we did all the things in life we were capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves.”

Another quote I enjoy is: “Real difficulties can be overcome; it is only the imaginary ones that are unconquerable.”

So think about that the next time you’re faced with a “character building” day.
