HCG Weight Loss’s “The Devil Made Me Do It!”

Let’s be really, really clear about something — obesity is NOT a disease. It is a choice. Granted, a choice you made unconsciously and over a long period of time, but a choice hcg diet-hcg for weight loss-dcg dropsnonetheless.

And as you roll off the HCG Diet… into Phase 3 and then into Phase 4 — you’re going to have to watch what you think and consequently, what you say because your mind could well undone all that work you did over the previous 12 weeks.

This is it. The mental game. Where more often than not, folks fail to keep the weight off, long-term.

If you like to say things like, “I’m addicted to ____ (fill in the blank here),  then have you ever stopped to ask yourself what problems you are creating by saying and thinking that? And WHEN it’s said is almost as important as WHAT is said.

When most say it (maybe even you), it is as they are reaching for that extra helping of whatever — almost like they’re making an excuse and giving themselves permission to have it — while providing a socially acceptable excuse for their behavior.

See, it’s not their fault, the addiction made them do it. After all, comedian Flip Wilson made a career out of “The devil made me do it,” so it must work, right? At least if you’re a comedian.

Sure, you might think you mean it harmlessly and certainly it works great as social lubricant to say to the hostess at a party, as you help yourself to your fifth cupcake, “OMG! I can’t get enough of these cupcakes! I’m addicted to them!”

The hostess gets to feel great and swell with pride for being a great host and you… you get to watch your waistline, ass and thighs swell in a day or two from chronic overeating. No, not from those five cupcakes (though they are certainly contributing to your condition), but from all the other times you gave in to your seeming “helplessness” to a condition that you keep in place by how you continue to talk about it.

I promise you, I know as well as you do that those five cupcakes were just the tip of your little iceberg.

Neat little mental trap you’ve got going there, isn’t it?

And though this next bit is something I coach people on only when I have them one-on-one, I’m hesitant to talk about it here because this concept really, really needs to be set-up with the proper context.

That being said, if you can grok it, then it will set you free.

In short, labeling something an “addiction” and thinking about it, languaging it, and basically living from the idea that there’s something that you are “addicted” to, implies you have no control over it. And if you have no control over it then that means it controls you.

Holding a simple craving as an “addiction” btw, is a surefire way to never conquer it. And if you can never conquer it, then you’re always going to have that little monkey on your back. And who wants to live being victimized by something you’re mentally keeping in place to begin with?

It’s ridiculous and a little bit scary when it’s laid out on the floor in front of you like that, isn’t it?

There’s lots more I can say about this, if you’re interested. But first I want to hear from you. Have you noticed yourself doing this? No, wait. Let’s do this to make it easier – have you ever noticed other people doing this? What did you think when you heard them say it?

Now that you know how important the mental game is, how are you planning to think and say things differently once you’re off the HCG Diet?

Did I ever need to hear this and be reminded yet again. I used to use the word, “Chocloholic” in relation to me. And of course, “my sweet/chocolate addiction”. Add to that my constantly saying I have a profound hearing loss. Oh my! What I have been affirming and then confirming for myself! Have been listening more to my self-talk since you wrote the above, and am shocked (as usual) about how I talk to me. Thanks so much for the wake-up call (again!)

Speaking of moving into the next phase, and maybe this has been addressed elsewhere: is it still necessary to go through the Phase 3 set between each set IF one has more weight to lose? I heard there are those who do not go into Phase 3 after the 43 days, and just continue on with the HCG and 500 cal until they reach their desired weight — then at long last go into Phases 3 and 4 and stop. Period. What’s the scoop, Walter as the following is taken from the manual?
 When You Have More Weight to Lose: If you need to lose more weight after completing Phase 2, you start the maintenance interval where for the first three weeks you eat normally with the exception of no sugar and no starch. During the next three weeks that follow (now commonly known as the beginning maintenance weeks of Phase 4), you can SLOWLY add sugar and starch back in. After completing the Phase 3 and Phase 4 maintenance interval that follows each course of Phase 2, you can then begin to use Phase 2 again.
 The maintenance interval between Phase 2 courses increases incrementally as Phase 4 becomes increasingly longer with each additional HCG course. (Also see file: “Phase 3 Basics – HCG Quick Reference Guide.”) Read about the programs of Phase 3 and Phase 4 in their entirety through other resources.

I’ve found for myself and for others, that it’s your mental game that will ultimately determine your success (or not) on the HCG Diet… or really anything in life. That’s why I wrote the post, Judy. We all need to pay attention to the self-talk — especially when you’re doing HCG for the first time.

I you all are probably getting tired of hearing me say it, but the HCG Diet, like many things, is 20% mechanics (the physical things to do) and 80% psychological (mental).

If you and others here want to see more posts about the mental game, let me know. I want to write about the things folks are chomping at the bit to know.

    > is it still necessary to go through the Phase 3 set between each set IF one has more weight to lose?

    Yes.

    > I heard there are those who do not go into Phase 3 after the 43 days, and just continue on with the HCG and 500 cal until they reach their desired weight — then at long last go into Phases 3 and 4 and stop.

Wow. I think that’s really dangerous. You really, really have to be careful of some HCG people are doing. You need to give you body a break in between rounds. Rolling from one 6 week round into another… I’d be worried that some of the weight coming off may be muscle and vital fat weight.

What I advise, have done for all 3 of my rounds and what I’ve had the grads do is this: don’t stay on Round 2 for longer than 6 weeks. If you have a few days left over of your sublingual, then go ahead and take it, don’t throw it out. But when it’s done, you’re done w/Phase 2.

    Then start Phase 3.

Stay on P3 for the entire 6 weeks. Then and only then start another P2 if you have more weight to shed.

And personally… well, let me say this way. The internet is a wonderful and dangerous place. Wonderful because you can instantly find out nearly anything you want to know. And the other side is that it is dangerous because anyone can say anything, claim anything and many (too many!) folks will believe it and treat it as real with no proof involved.

That’s why I posted pics of my body transformation (w/more pics and videos coming). Normally I’ve a very private person so putting up half-naked pictures of myself does not feed my ego. And as an athlete for most of my life, making public my Before pics was monumentally embarrassing.

And yet, since my mission is to show millions how to do this and get their lives back, then I needed to be believable and the only way to do that in our ‘prove it’ age was to show the proof, no matter how embarrassing. Fortunately, the mission is bigger than the needs of my ego.

Look, very few people are going to need to lose 157 lbs, right? What I’m hoping will happen is that folks wanting to lose weight fast and then keep it off for good, is look at my example, and hold it as a possibility for themselves and reason out, ‘Hey, if THAT guy can lose that much weight in under 125 days, then I can certainly lose these 30/50/60 lbs I have to lose.’

That’s my intention for folks who stumble across this blog. I want them to grok the possibility that’s in front of them, if they’ll just take the action. Whew! I’ve got motor-mouth today!

Thanks again for the P3 and HCG break clarity. AND thanks for the Wiki. link to “grok” — I wondered what it was and being a newbie to your blog I thought it was a “Star Trekkie” word you made up! It’s a great word! Thanks.
